Apheon was unfamiliar with the landscapes of the Third.
As one of the many Wards, the all-knowing guardians of ∆
,
she was raised surrounded by the violent geometry of the Fifth,
gradually adjusting her mannerisms to match.
As such, the broken euclidean world of #
seemed peaceful in
comparison. Wrecked, and worthless, but peaceful.
Regardless, Apheon would have preferred to not go. Peace, she found, was
a boring concept; an excuse for those below to rest. Rest, supposedly,
was crucial to the first four Realms. Not to Apheon.
What Apheon was familiar with was infinitely more vital;
psychology. She had dedicated her existence as a Ward to recording and
analysing the behavioural patterns of sentient beings around and below
her. She had gotten good at it, too. So good, in fact, that it became
her primary purpose in ∆
.
This is the reason why she was chosen to find 432.
When a being from below enters the Fifth, it is not meant to leave.
It must either promote to a Ward, or perish. So when 432 appeared and
then managed to leave, alive, and still himself, a panic rapidly spread
through ∆
. In the ones below, the Fifth Realm as a concept
was not meant to exist. It was meant to be kept a secret, in fear of
revealing the true nature of the world to those not meant to see it.
Luckily for the Wards, once 432 saw ∆
, ∆
saw him back.
